Sami culture is many thousands of years old, and has been heavily influenced by the natural environment in the Barents region.
Nine Sami families move their reindeer to summer pasture in Nordkyn each year, and the contemporary culture of the region is influenced by Sami traditions.
Sami culture emphasises harmony with nature, and has a long heritage of reindeer herding, coast fishing and herbal medicine.
There are plenty of opportunities to experience Sami culture in Nordkyn. Several cultural tours are available (see the column to the right), and you can also make reservations for an authentic Sami dinner in a lavvu (Sami teepee), or an overnight stay!
